PRACTICAL GUIDE
Stag and hen parties in the Hautes-Alpes
Group adventure ideas for a stag or hen party.
Rivers, a lake, cliffs, forests and huts: the Hautes-Alpes pack everything you need for a memorable stag or hen party into a small area, far from ready-made packages. Here is how to build a programme the whole group will enjoy, with prices taken from the operators' official websites.
The right format
A two-day weekend is enough, with one big activity per half-day and a relaxed evening. Lake Serre-Ponçon and the Embrunais concentrate many activities a few kilometres apart, which keeps driving to a minimum. For a more high-mountain feel, the Briançonnais is the other good base.
Activities that bring the group together
- An outdoor escape game. Near Embrun, COEZIA offers a stag and hen package at €39 per person, for 5 to 40 players: a 90-minute investigation in the forest, halfway between hiking and puzzles. In winter, the game is played on snowshoes at Les Orres 1800. It is the ideal activity to get friends who don't yet know each other playing together.
- Rafting on the Durance. A half-day run generally costs €40 to €50 per person. Pure Rafting even offers a sunset aperitif raft (€50), and Yes we raft a full-length run (€72) for the sportiest.
- A trip on the lake. Aqua Détente Pros in Savines-le-Lac hires licence-free boats from €50 and runs aperitif boat trips from €75 per person.
Thrills
- Paragliding. Origin'Air offers tandem flights from €90 to €200 depending on duration, around Serre Chevalier and Briançon. Jennif'Air flies at Les Orres.
- Skydiving. Alpes Aviation Parachutisme in Tallard offers tandem jumps, daily from 8am to 6pm, weather permitting.
- Canyoning and via ferrata. With Instinct Vertical: Fournel canyon €50, Couleau canyon €45, Durance gorges via ferrata €50, for a half-day of about 3 hours.
Where to sleep and eat
In Embrun, the Hôtel de la Mairie (29 rooms, restaurant) sits in the heart of the old town. In Baratier, Les Peupliers (3-star hotel, 23 rooms, spa) is close to Lake Serre-Ponçon. In the Briançonnais, the Auberge de la Paix (13 rooms, Carpe Diem restaurant) is set in the Cité Vauban. For a more gastronomic dinner, Les Tables de Gaspard in Saint-Crépin are selected by the Michelin Guide 2026.
Our organising tips
- Book early, especially between June and August: group slots go fast.
- Give operators the exact number of participants: for more than 8 players, COEZIA asks you to book by phone (+33 6 45 57 18 01).
- Check the conditions: being able to swim is required for rafting, and paragliding and skydiving depend on the weather. Have a plan B.
- Plan your budget: allow about €40 to €50 per person per guided activity, excluding accommodation and meals.
